Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, hosted Parliament’s Select Committee on Roads and Transport, which was on a strategic oversight and monitoring visit to agencies under the Ministry of Transport.

The visit formed part of the committee’s mandate to assess the operations, progress, challenges, and ongoing reforms being undertaken by MMTL.

The committee, led by its Chairman and Member of Parliament (MP) for Wassa East, Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah, was received by the Deputy Managing Director for Finance and Administration, Mr. Dennis Yeboah Twumasi.

During the engagement, the Deputy Manager for Corporate Planning, Mr. Benjamin Nimako, delivered a PowerPoint presentation to members of the committee.

He highlighted the circumstances surrounding the establishment of MMTL, the company’s ownership structure, mission and vision, goals and objectives, core mandate, human resource capacity, operational challenges, progress made over the years, and key reforms being implemented to revamp the business.

Mr. Nimako also highlighted the government’s recent intervention to retool the company with 100 29-seater Isuzu Geyushi buses. He explained how these buses were being deployed to enhance mobility across the country and outlined plans to procure additional electric buses to augment MMTL’s intra-city services in major urban centres.

Concluding his presentation, Mr. Nimako appealed to the committee to support MMTL in acquiring additional buses to replace its ageing fleet.

He also requested support for exemptions from import duties on spare parts, the clearance of a 40-foot container loaded with spare parts at the Tema Port, and approval for the conversion of GHS124 million, relating to buses procured some years ago, into a grant.

Furthermore, he called on the committee to assist MMTL in securing designated loading points and terminals in the regional capitals, as well as obtaining title documents for landed properties secured from the Omni-bus Service Authority (OSA).

“Mr. Chairman, your intervention will help turn Metro Mass around and make it the viable business we all desire,” he noted.

In its response, the committee urged MMTL to be more proactive in its operations and to diversify into other profitable business areas.

Members also encouraged the company to deploy more buses during peak hours to help ease commuter challenges and reduce congestion, particularly in major cities.

Acknowledging the concerns raised, Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah assured management of the committee’s support.

“We duly acknowledge your challenges and the appeal you have made. Indeed, you need our support, and that is why we came. We will engage the Ministry of Transport to help ensure that your concerns are addressed,” he said.
