A nine-member re-constituted Board of Directors of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has been inaugurated by the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe.

The Minister charged the Board members to refrain from interfering in the day-to-day management of the quasi-government transport service provider.

The Board members include the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Chirano, Okogyeman Kweku Gyamprah III (Chairman), Cezario Kale, Esq., Mr. Eric Tetteh Addision, Mr. Ebow Quayson, Mr. Kojo Adu-Asare, and Ms. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante.

During the brief inaugural ceremony, which took place in Accra on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Mr. Nikpe directed the Board members to abide by good governance principles and ensure collaboration with the managerial staff to achieve the company’s objectives.
He tasked them to ensure that MMTL delivers on its mandate, assuring them of the government’s commitment to providing necessary policy direction and guidelines.

The Minister also highlighted the vital role of the transport sector in promoting economic growth, creating jobs, and ensuring equitable opportunities.
He expressed optimism that with hard work and dedication, MMTL would overcome its challenges and achieve sustainability, particularly through the implementation of the National Electric Vehicle Policy.

“The Board and Management must work together to explore innovative financing, embrace the National Electric Vehicle Policy, and play a leadership role in electrifying public transport”.

Mr. Nikpe also revealed plans by the government to introduce a revamped welfare system for citizens aged 60 years and above to facilitate their movements across the country.

That notwithstanding, he said the government was committed to ensuring that MMTL’s bus terminals are modernized while also ensuring improved accessibility for persons with disabilities.
