The Acting Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Cezario Kale, Esq., has reassured staff of his Management Team’s resolve to revive the company with 1,000 modern and comfortable buses. This move, he noted would make MMTL more competitive in this dynamic transport sector.
Revival Plan
During his maiden official tour to the southern sector operational branches: Tarkwa, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Swedru, Akim Odaw, Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Ho, and Aflao, Mr. Kale engaged the staff, shared his vision and gathered first-hand information about challenges facing the various branches.
He emphasized the need for MMTL to study market trends, identify opportunities, and adapt to suit the commuting public’s taste.
Challenges and Solutions
MMTL has faced numerous challenges, including poor infrastructure, inadequate fleet, and poor working conditions. The government’s attempt to establish MMTL and other public transport systems initially offered a glimmer of hope. However, these services faltered largely due to dwindling fleet of buses, dynamism in consumer preference among many others.
Innovative Strategic Plan
To address these challenges, Mr. Kale highlighted plans to introduce three innovative services: Metro Express, Metro Cargo Division, and Metro Hiring Division, with air-conditioned buses for passenger comfort.
“All our buses will be air-conditioned to give our passengers some form of comfort. Metro Mass will no longer be the last resort for passengers”, he declared.
This strategic plan is expected to improve travel time, provide comfort, eliminate crowding and noise, as well as ensuring reliability and accessibility of buses. Ultimately, these improvements would positively impact revenue inflow and contribute to the company’s revival.
“His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, has given us a performance contract to revive Metro Mass Transit Limited which is at all-time low. We will not lament but to fix the problems we have inherited”, he assured.
Staff Feedback and Assurance
Managers from the various branches expressed appreciation for the engagement and pledged support for the Management Team’s vision. They raised concerns about promotional issues, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for technical staff, and working conditions. Mr. Kale assured staff that he would address these issues, although some might take time.
With a clear vision and strategic plan in place, Mr. Kale is hopeful that MMTL is poised to regain its position as a leading public transport service provider.
The Acting MD was accompanied on the tour by the Deputy Managing Director, Operations & Technical, Haroun Apaw-Wiredu, Human Resource Manager, Margaret Amponsah, and Acting Finance Manager, Saaka Vincent Edward.
