The outgoing Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Mr. Albert Adu Boahen, has handed over the reins of the quasi-government transport service operator to Mr. Kale Cesar Esq., the new Managing Director of the company. Mr. Kale’s appointment was made public on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
During the handover ceremony, which took place at the company’s conference room on Monday, March 17, 2025, Mr. Adu Boahen introduced Mr. Kale, the two deputy Managing Directors he worked with: Richard Yamfo (Deputy Managing Director, Finance and Administration) and Richard Nana Osei Bamfo (Deputy Managing Director, Operations & Technical). He also introduced Mr. Kale to the line managers, briefing him on the operational structure and activities of the company.
Mr. Adu Boahen further briefed the new MD on the company’s assets, including landed and movable properties, as well as the staff strength and number of fleet buses at their disposal. Additionally, he discussed the company’s liabilities, operational challenges, and measures put in place to address them, such as the automated electronic ticketing and payment systems, including the robust Icon Transport Management System (ITMS) and Tap n Go payment platform.
“The introduction of these robust systems has enabled us to normalize our salary payment cycle, create a roadmap for statutory payments, and transition from making annual losses of over 40% of our projected budget,” Mr. Adu Boahen noted. He added, “The prospects are promising, but achieving them will require discipline, dedication, and commitment.”
Mr. Adu Boahen appealed to the line managers to extend their collaboration and cooperation to the new Managing Director. After the handover, he introduced Mr. Kale to the staff, where he made an emotional statement, apologizing to those he may have unintentionally offended during his tenure.
Mr. Kale commended Mr. Adu Boahen and the staff for their hard work and assured them that he would continue from where they left off. “I must commend you, Mr. Adu Boahen, and your staff, for holding this challenging company together. I promise to work with you to continue from where my brother left,” he said.
To address the company’s challenges, Mr. Kale emphasized the need for sacrifice, dedication, and transparency from the staff. “Working together will require transparency, integrity, and sacrifice. With these attributes, we can achieve greatness,” he noted.
Mr. Kale described Metro Mass Transit Limited as a strategic intervention organization established by the government to alleviate the suffering of underserved communities. He assured the staff that he would address the company’s challenges, improve working conditions, and increase emoluments if they worked together to enhance the company’s finances.
His vision for the company’s growth, he noted, is built on three pillars: reflect, review, and fix or reset where necessary, as espoused by President John Dramani Mahama. “We need to reflect on our organizational practices, review what needs to be put in place, and fix or reset where necessary,” he concluded.
